Today, we’re talking mid-90s Miu Miu gingham trousers. Never thought I’d be a gingham-trousers-wearing-kind-of-girl, but this is probably my new favourite piece in the archive.
I found this pair during my recent trip to London where I was on my way home and HAD to stop at Selfridges after a wonderful ballet class at Danceworks to take shelter from the rain (sounds like an excuse but it isn’t *wink*) and seeing this at Vintage Threads. I tried my best to avoid any impulse purchase, so I tried to follow my ‘24 hour rule’ when it comes to buying clothes…and guess what? I came back the next day, tried it on—perfect fit, and it was 50% off!—even better!
Despite being a fan of Miuccia Prada (she is ‘mother’, btw), I’ve never owned anything from Prada’s sister label, Miu Miu. Founded in 1992 by Miuccia Prada with its name derived from Miuccia Prada's family nickname, and meant to be a more youthful, playful, and affordable alternative and slightly less sophisticated than the Prada line. It is also said that Miu Miu is not as complicated and thought out as Prada. Miu Miu gained popularity in 1995, three years after its launch where the label showed its first collection at the NYFW in 1995 where Kate Moss was selected to star in the show and gained instant attention, of course.
Always proud of all my vintage finds!…It feels like a trasure hunt sometimes. As someone who doenst’ like to follow trends and I enjoy knowing a little history of each piece before buying them—like art. Also thinking about sustainability—not just by how it was purchased (vintage or not), but also considering the material. This pair of trousers are made of wool, and wool alongside cotton, linen, bamboo textile, hemp, etc. are one of the most eco-friendly fabrics and will last you a long time.
